KAGAWA・TAKAMATSU-SHI

A moment shaped by stone, art, and nature—found only in this town.
On the outskirts of Takamatsu lies Mure, a town known for its stonework.
Nestled on a hill just behind the Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum,
Muresuzume is a quiet oasis where you can leave the noise of the city behind.

There are no lavish amenities or services like those of a hotel or private villa,
but instead, you’ll find the sound of birdsong, a gentle breeze flowing down from Mt. Yashima,
a night sky filled with stars, and sweeping views reaching all the way to the Sanuki Mountains.
It’s in this atmosphere that you begin to understand why Isamu Noguchi chose to build his atelier here.

▲A deck offering a panoramic view of Yashima, the iconic symbol of Takamatsu.

▲An outdoor kitchen and open-air dining space invite you to enjoy a more active and liberating cooking and dining experience—something out of the ordinary.

The Charm of Local Life

This stone town is home to traditional houses perched atop stone walls, narrow old farm roads, and terraced fields that still remain today.
Strolling through the area—like a child on an adventure—offers a special kind of joy.
You’ll come across scattered stone workshops, stone yards stacked high,
and if you look toward the mountains, you may catch sight of active quarries still being carved for stone.

By sensing the unique sounds and scenery with all five senses,
you’ll understand why Isamu Noguchi chose this place for his atelier.

We recommend staying for a few nights to truly take in what this town has to offer.
By the way, the Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum is just a 3-minute walk away.
