Don’t Get Hung up on “Tiny”, Think “Your” Size

"Entering the mountains near the Oregon-California border, we found a family living in a small house on a large plot of land. It was a “big tiny” house, different in size from the ones we had seen before. In addition to the couple’s big tiny house, there was also a treehouse for their son and a cabin for their daughter in the forest.

'The first few months were very difficult. When we moved from a normal house, it took us a while to get a sense of each other’s personal space, but eventually we were able to understand each other on a deeper level, and we have been getting along well ever since.'

Andrew was not bound by the term "tiny house" and instead thought about space and facilities that fit their own means. He hopes that this will help bring awareness to the most important principle of the tiny house movement, even if just a little. He was greatly influenced by the attitude of a realist lifestyle with a holistic perspective, rather than a minimalist."

Room Introduction [Type-C]

In actuality, we are not simply obsessed with making tiny houses as small as possible. While recognizing the benefits of "smallness," we like a space just spacious enough to not feel encumbered physically or mentally. Type-C is the largest size in the Village.

The mini kitchen directly in front of you as you enter is a pleasant place where greenery enters your line of sight immediately. The long counter can be used for enjoying a light meal or as a work desk. The ceiling is higher and the width is wider than the other houses, so you may be surprised when you enter to find that it is different from the tiny house interior that you had imagined.

At the back is a large loft that can sleep two or three people. Under the loft are two iron frame benches, perfect for seating and chatting during the day, and at night, you can lay down duvets to make beds for two people.

This house is made with plenty of room, and is characterized by the fact that even if you are carrying large baggage it will not interfere with your space.

At Homemade Village we position the tiny house as a bedroom, and other functions are fulfilled by the facilities below, which are shared by all guests.

Common House (Community Multi-Use Building): With a lounge, dining area, kitchen, and restroom, the Common house is a good place to relax indoors.

Community Garden: The garden brings the seasons and their harvests into our day-to-day-life, with herbs and vegetables, a small pond, a compost shed, and a greenhouse.

Bathroom: There is a bathroom each for men and women containing shower booths, a wide sink, and toilets. The only amenities provided are shampoo, conditioner, and body soap.

Corner Shop (Shop and Light Meals): Offers ingredients for breakfast and dinner and prepared light meals. The greenhouse area at the front of the shop is partially indoors, allowing you to spend time comfortably in close proximity to nature.

Kids Room: A tiny house with shoes allowed indoors. A perfect fit for children to play or adults to kick back with a good book or have a nap.

Andrew and his family taught us that just because it is a tiny house does not mean you have to cram yourself into a small space. We continue to learn much from how they find the optimal space for self and family, proactively plan how to connect with their surrounding environment and local community, and smoothly adapt to change in their lives.

You’re welcome to give it a try.
