The Arched Roof: Symbol of the Village
'Inside the tiny house village on a quiet street just a little way away from central Portland was a world that, from the outside, I would never have imagined. Facing the street was a normal house, but we took the path to the backyard and discovered four tiny houses surrounding a garden. “Simply Home Community”, at the time still newborn, changed my life.

Speaking to the residents, they said, "It's not all smooth sailing, but it's fun, like being a big family, and we can live with less waste." They were looking for a form of housing that shares land (including infrastructure) just like sharing a room or house as well as a system where each person has their own independent space and maintains a requisite amount of privacy.
By the way, there are two tiny houses with arched roofs here. The upper photo is of the house of Ben, a young man who appears in the documentary film "Small is Beautiful." The photo below is Lina's tiny house, nicknamed “Lucky Penny.” As the name Penny (as in the British copper coin) suggests, it is very cute, with copper items and round shapes scattered throughout.
It was from meeting this community that Homemade Village was born.'
Room Introduction [Type-B]
This tiny house with an arched roof was actually built in 2023 as a workshop with 15 participants from all over the country. The whole group collaborated to come up with the design, coalescing into the placement of the windows throughout the house. We decided to relocate the house to a different lot than originally planned, so the views from those windows may have changed. Even so, the new scenery will surely have its own appeal.

We someday hope to create a system that will allow DIYers to safely build their own tiny houses, to suit their own comfort.
This handmade tiny house is very simple. The mini kitchen next to the entrance is just a steel frame bookshelf with a top board placed on top, and a sink built in. The box under the sink contains a water tank.
In the back, there is a two-floor bedroom, and between that and the kitchen is a small table with four stools. The arched ceiling gives the interior a gentle atmosphere, conducive to a restful sleep.
At Homemade Village we position the tiny house as a bedroom, and other functions are fulfilled by the facilities below, which are shared by all guests.
Common House (Community Multi-Use Building): With a lounge, dining area, kitchen, and restroom, the Common house is a good place to relax indoors.
Community Garden: The garden brings the seasons and their harvests into our day-to-day-life, with herbs and vegetables, a small pond, a compost shed, and a greenhouse.
Bathroom: There is a bathroom each for men and women containing shower booths, a wide sink, and toilets. The only amenities provided are shampoo, conditioner, and body soap.
Corner Shop (Shop and Light Meals): Offers ingredients for breakfast and dinner and prepared light meals. The greenhouse area at the front of the shop is partially indoors, allowing you to spend time comfortably in close proximity to nature.
Kids Room: A tiny house with shoes allowed indoors. A perfect fit for children to play or adults to kick back with a good book or have a nap.
The arched roof tiny house was a symbol of the Simply Home Community. Its roots can be traced back to the hippie culture of the 1970s, and even earlier to the Roma (or Romani, nomadic tribe of Indo-Aryan origin) culture. The arched roof is a suitable choice for the free-spirited tiny house community.
We recommend experiencing sleeping under a round roof for yourself.
