KOMINKA STAY & DINING
Take your kominka stay to another level with the sublime dining experience at Fujimatsu Restaurant and the island-style breakfast.

Kominka are traditional Japanese houses that are at least one century old. In Ojika seven kominka got remodeled into a vacation rental that visitors can stay in. It is an amazing lodging option for those who appreciate the beauty of Japanese traditional architecture, the luxury of modern comfort, as well as the privacy of one's own home.

Location is Important
Scattered around the island, each kominka carries the unique charm of its neighborhood. Wake up to the sound of seagulls from the harbor next door. Escape from the hustle and bustle into the privacy of your own Japanese garden. Bond with friendly neighbors in an old fishing village. Choose your new home and the unique experience that comes with it.

Kominka Nichigetsuan, Hoshu and Sakishoji are located in Fuefuki: the liveliest area of the island. Here you can find all the shops and restaurants, as well as many historical sights, such as the former residence of Oda family (now Museum of History and Folklore): historically one of the wealthiest families on the island that rose to prominence through whailing. Explore the charming streets of the neighboring fishing town, where locals will greet you with a warm smile and a friendly chat.

In the northern part of Ojika Island, in a peaceful Yanagi village, surrounded by vast rice fields and cow pastures, you will find Ichiean, Ichigoan and Oyake. These kominka are perfect for guests who want to escape the hustle and bustle and surround themselves with nature. The picturesque Goryo and Kakinohama beaches are 10-15 minutes away on foot.

Kominka Restaurant Fujimatsu
Fujimatsu is a seafront restaurant located inside the former residence of the Fujimatsu family — whalers and sake brewers who helped build Ojika Island’s economy. The restaurant’s backyard has a beautiful walkway leading to the private boating dock. There, from across the sea, guests can see the mysterious Nozaki Island with its sacred Okino-Kojima shrine. At Fujimatsu, locally produced ingredients at the peak of their freshness are turned into exquisite dishes that can be savored in the elegant atmosphere of the building.

Sustainable Dining
Fujimatsu sources its ingredients including fish, vegetables, and rice from local farmers and fishermen, ensuring the quality and freshness of its fare. As a result, the restaurant’s menu focuses on seasonality and the culinary identity of Ojika Island. Dining at Fujimatsu, is an opportunity to support the farming and fishing families on Ojika Island.
Kaiseki Cuisine
Kaiseki or kaiseki-ryōri is a traditional multi-course Japanese dinner. The term also refers to the collection of skills and techniques that allow the preparation of such meals and is analogous to Western haute cuisine. At Fujimatsu the kaiseki-style course menu includes: appetizers, simmered dish, grilled dish, deep fried dish. A sea weed soup and a rice dish are served at the end. The centerpiece of Fujimatsu kaiseki-style dinner is the gorgeous sashimi platter. All dishes are made using fish and vegetables from Ojika Island.

-We offer to drive our guests both ways.
-Children's menu is available.
The Island-style Breakfast
This delicious breakfast set includes marinated, locally caught amberjack sashimi, instant, flying fish-flavored soup with seaweed, and locally grown rice. A great breakfast option for those who love discovering local flavors.

-We will store the set inside your kominka's fridge (sashimi inside the freezer). The sashimi tastes best if defrosted in the morning using cold water (shown in the photos above).
-It takes only 5 minutes or less to defrost the sashimi.
