For over a thousand years, Tawarayama Onsen has been cherished as a place of healing.
In the past, people from all over Japan would come to stay for extended periods, seeking recovery through hot spring cures.
Even today, this quiet “hidden gem” offers not only exceptional waters but also a warm soto-yu (public bath) culture. Perhaps that is why, without even noticing, you feel at ease walking barefaced, wrapped in a sense of comfort and belonging.
Surrounded by the gentle sounds of nature and friendly local voices, you’ll feel your body relax and your heart at ease. It’s a place you’ll always want to come back to.
The “Champion of the West”
More than beauty, his thousand-year-old spring restores your vitality.
The silky waters of Tawarayama have been selected as one of the “New Japan 100 Famous Hot Springs,” and were ranked Yokozuna (Grand Champion) of Western Japan by renowned onsen scholar Professor Tadanori Matsuda.
Its benefits are said to include radiant skin, stronger immunity, and natural healing power. Long ago, guests who recovered here often left behind their no longer needed crutches, a testament to the spring’s restorative power.
But even without the history, the smooth, velvety water itself will likely win you over. Let it gently ease away the fatigue of daily life.
Free Pass for Bath-Hopping
Our baths are not inside the ryokan. Instead, enjoy the two town baths, Shirou no Yu and Machi no Yu, and experience the long-loved soto-yu culture.
All guests receive a complimentary bath pass (nyuyoku tegata) upon check-in, valid until noon the following day. Use it as often as you like, whenever you want.
Take a stroll through the town and enjoy the baths at your own pace.

The historic town bath Kawa no Yu has been reborn as the reception for Tawarayama Machigoto Ryokan.
The old bathhouse counter (bandai), beloved for decades, remains, greeting guests as always.

All check-in/check-out, information, bath passes, and amenities are provided here. Please stop by Kawa no Yu first, rather than going directly to your room. Look for the unique roof that looks like a green little mountain — that’s your landmark.” Our staff will welcome you.
➤ Important Notes for Your Stay
Meals: Accommodation is room-only (no meals provided). The town has a few restaurants, but many close early or operate irregularly. There are no convenience stores within walking distance. Feel free to bring your favorite food and drinks—enjoying them after a hot bath is one of the true pleasures of Tawarayama.
Shared restroom facilities： rooms do not have private bathrooms; there are shared facilities available in the style of a traditional onsen inn.
Quiet hours: Our buildings are wooden structures from the early Showa period, and sound travels easily through the walls. We kindly ask all guests to keep noise to a minimum after 9 p.m. so everyone can enjoy a peaceful night’s rest.
No Smoking: Smoking is strictly prohibited inside, including in guest rooms.
Internet: Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building.
Pets: Unfortunately, pets are not allowed.
Children: Children are welcome. Rates for children under 12 are 80% of the adult price.
A Small Welcome Gift
At check-in, guests are offered three Japanese snacks (dagashi), which are small gift that lets you enjoy the retro charm of Japan.

ご予約のお部屋に関わらず、まずは「川の湯」へお越しください。専任スタッフよりご滞在中のご説明、入浴手形や作務衣のお渡しをいたします。
➤➤ 外湯文化の温泉です（館内にお風呂はありません）
お風呂は旅館の中にはなく、二つの外湯『白猿の湯』と『町の湯』をご利用ください。チェックイン～翌日15時までご利用いただけるフリーパス「入浴手形」をお渡しいたします。
➤➤ 「素泊まりプラン」をご選択の場合は、食事のご用意はありません

管理人は常駐しておりませんが、「俵山まちごと旅館・受付」営業時間の間はスタッフが対応いたします。 また、ご宿泊当日に「緊急連絡先」をお知らせいたしますので、何かございましたらご遠慮なくご連絡ください。
➤ 客室に飲料水、お湯の用意はありますか？
客室におひとり様1本ミネラルウォーターをご用意しています。（2025年10月現在）また、電気ケトルを備えております。その他のお飲み物につきましては、近くの自動販売機をご利用ください。

「川の湯」より徒歩約2分、俵山湯町第1駐車場（24時間・無料）をご利用ください。
