【Yokai Appear on a Summer Night⁉】The Eerie ”Yokai Room”
The entire 23,000㎡ site of Ohana has been designated a national place of scenic beauty and cultural asset, and the mansion, which has a history of approximately 400 years, is still run by the descendants of the feudal lord.
”The Geishu Budayu Monogatari Emaki ”is a picture scroll depicting monsters handed down in the Tachibana family, the feudal lords of Yanagawa.
Inspired by the Yokai picture scrolls that created a huge boom during the Edo period, Ohana hosts a limited-time "Yokai Room" every summer.
■Ohana Summer Art Event About ”Kikai Yakou"
The "Yokai Lanterns" are produced by "Ito Gonjiro Shoten," a lantern-making shop in Yame City. These lanterns boast a history of approximately 300 years and are cultural assets of the Yanagawa feudal lord's residence, Ohana, which is still protected by the descendants of the Yanagawa feudal lord.
This art event will be inspired by the yokai lanterns that Ito has made up to now and the yokai picture scrolls handed down in the Tachibana clan, and will feature a special display of lanterns made specifically for this exhibition, as well as unpublished works.
Kikai Yakou 2025 schedule
August 15th (Fri) - 17th (Sun), 22nd (Fri) - 24th (Sun) [6 days in total]

What is the Yokai room?
The Yokai Lanterns made by Ito Gonjiro Shoten, which appear at the summer event "Kikai Yakou",are made entirely by hand and are highly artistic, featuring designs of yokai that look as if they could come to life at any moment.
On such summer nights, you can enjoy an extraordinary experience by spending a night in a specially designed guest room surrounded by the eerily lit Yokai lanterns. Enjoy a fantastical night decorated with lanterns of all sizes.
A book themed around "Japanese yokai"
The Yokai Room has a wide selection of books on the theme of Japanese yokai.
The books were selected by Bunkitsu Fukuoka Tenjin, a bookstore run by Hiraku Co., Ltd., which operates with the concept of "new encounters with books."
Enjoy a special evening quietly savoring the tales of yokai passed down across Japan, at a cultural heritage inn.
Eerie room furnishings
Additionally, you can enjoy yokai-themed hanging scrolls and eerie flowers arranged in the tokonoma, as part of the yokai-style furnishings.
A "Shibu Uchiwa" fan, a practical craft item that can be used for 100 years, will be presented to each room.

(Guided Tour of the Historic Residence) ”What we want to pass on to 100 years from now” Every day from 4:30pm
Why has the Tachibana clan continued to love Yanagawa from approximately 400 years ago to the present day?
Together with the staff of Ohana, we offer an experience touring the cultural heritage sites, allowing you to connect with the culture, history, and spirit passed down by a single clan.
”Dinner”- Enjoy the history inherited by the Tachibana clan through cuisine
Yanagawa has long been blessed with abundant ingredients, thanks to the rich natural environment created by the Ariake Sea—with the greatest tidal range in Japan—and the fertile Chikugo Plain.
The Tachibana clan also benefited from these blessings. Perhaps it was because Yanagawa was a prosperous region with little conflict that they were able to continue weaving their history uninterrupted for over 400 years.
From a daimyo family to a count's family, and then to a traditional restaurant and inn. Through the food culture that has developed in each era, we hope to deliver what we would like to pass on to the next 100 years.
