Unhurried time in a century-old kominka
Between Tokyo and Nagoya, in the tea country of Shizuoka, there is a small place called Sukemune(助宗) in the city of Fujieda. Here, a wooden farmhouse built roughly a hundred years ago was carefully restored and turned into a private stay for one group per day (up to 9 people). We call it Tsumugiyado Fuji.
It isn’t a “see-everything” kind of trip. It’s the kind where you talk for hours, cook together, and let the day breathe. The house, the garden, and the sauna are set up for that kind of time.
What “good time” means to us
In Japanese, friends sometimes say, “Let’s spend ii jikan—good time.” For us, that means conversation without looking at the clock; a meal that starts simple and grows as people add one more dish; a sauna round that ends with quiet air and a clear head. The house is designed around those small, human rhythms.
A calm, residential setting at the foothills of Fujieda
One reservation per day: the entire home is yours
Space to gather, and space to wander off and think
The house
This is a traditional kominka—a wooden farmhouse with hand-worked beams, paper shōji screens that soften the light, and an engawa (veranda) facing a small garden.
There are three tatami rooms and one Western-style room; two of the tatami rooms can open together to create a wide space for meals and long talks. The textures are old—wood, paper, tatami—yet the lighting and climate control are comfortable and modern.
Room
・3 Japanese-style tatami rooms (two can connect; no keys; air-conditioned)
・1 Western-style room (lockable; air-conditioned)
Max 9 guests; one group per day
Morning here is simple: light through paper, tea kettle on, someone barefoot on the veranda deciding what the day will be.
The log sauna in the garden
A separate sauna hut stands in the little Japanese garden. It’s built from Shizuoka-grown logs and heated by a wood stove made by MOKI, giving a deep, steady heat of over 90°C / 194°F.
Cooling down is in a plunge bath filled with natural groundwater—soft on the skin, usually 15–18°C / 59–64°F depending on the season—followed by open-air rest under the sky.

We pour Fujieda green tea over the stones for löyly. The aroma is gentle and toasty; it wraps around you and makes conversation easier somehow. People often say their best ideas arrive here—right after the steam, when the air is cool and the mind is clear.
Note: Sauna use requires booking the Sauna Plan in advance.
Tea, place, and the pace of a day
Fujieda has been a tea town for generations. You’ll taste it, of course, but you’ll also notice how tea shapes the day: morning cups that reset you, and evening löyly that carries a faint green scent. Sukemune sits at the quiet edge of town, a simple gateway to hills and fields. It’s a gentle pace—one that asks for fewer checklists and more presence.

Cooking together
The kitchen is fully equipped (four-burner cooktop, refrigerator, microwave, rice cooker, cookware, tableware, plenty of glasses). Most guests pick up ingredients at nearby supermarkets or convenience stores—about a 10-minute drive—and make the house their own. A pot of miso soup appears. Someone grills fish. Someone else tosses a salad. The table grows as the talk deepens.
Work, retreats, and honest conversations
Teams use the house for offsites because it feels different from a meeting room. There’s fast Wi-Fi, a whiteboard, and enough corners for side discussions. Many groups say the house helps them speak plainly and decide together: main session on tatami, a break on the veranda, a reset in the sauna.
