This 1-night, 2-meal plan includes a guided snowshoe experience in Akiyamago — one of the world’s heaviest snowfall regions and a hidden gem of Japan.
During February, snow can reach depths of up to 4 meters, making this one of the country’s most extreme snow areas.
Meals feature locally sourced ingredients and dishes inspired by the wisdom and warmth of life in snow country, carefully prepared to highlight the natural flavors of each ingredient. Enjoy a heartwarming dining experience that nourishes both body and soul.
The following morning, join a local guide for a snowshoe walk through the snowy landscape — a chance to experience the serene beauty and harsh grace of Akiyamago in midwinter.

Meals
The meals at Katakuri-no-Yado are thoughtfully prepared with balance in taste, color, and nutrition, allowing guests to savor the natural flavors of seasonal ingredients.
Many dishes are handmade — some developed through trial and error using new ingredients, others inspired by local home cooking taught by village mothers. Sauces, pickles, and desserts are all made from scratch, with heartfelt hospitality in every bite.

Appetizers – Edamame tofu, deep-fried eggplant and shishito pepper with alpine garlic, wild pear & red perilla jelly, green pepper with seaweed, sweet potato with millet
Steamed Dish – Chilled chawanmushi with Tsunan corn
Vinegared Dish – Mozuku seaweed from Izumozaki with sweet herb and okra
Tempura – Maitake mushroom, pumpkin, wild beans, mountain grape tempura with kinome salt
Main Course – Tsunan pork wrapped with buckwheat grains, Ishigakida-grown Koshihikari rice, koji-pickled vegetables, miso soup
Dessert – Tsunan milk pudding with bottle gourd, topped with mulberry, red fruit, and rhubarb jam

Snowshoe Experience
Enjoy a guided snowshoe walk with a local expert who will teach you how to wear and walk with snowshoes safely.
If you wish to participate, please wear appropriate clothing for walking on snow.

Long boots, gloves, a hat, water-repellent clothing, and warm clothing (ski wear, separate raincoats)
★Snowshoeing is optional
★ The tour departs from Katakuri house at 9:00 AM on the morning after your stay, taking you on a roughly 1-hour walk through the Yuito Stone Terrace Rice Fields in Yuito Village.
★ Snowshoes for children are available (sizes may not fit very small children).
*If the event is canceled due to bad weather, 3,000 JPY for adults and 1,500 JPY for elementary and junior high school students will be refunded (no refunds will be given for infants or those who choose not to participate).
Access
Please note that roads to the inn may be affected by heavy snow, icy conditions, or avalanches.
Be sure to arrive by 4WD vehicle equipped with studless winter tires.
Approx. 30 minutes by car from the Owarino Intersection on National Route 117.
(Extra time may be required during snow removal operations — please allow plenty of time for travel.)

Is the facility non-smoking?
Yes, all rooms are non-smoking. If you wish to smoke, please use the designated outdoor smoking area.
Do you have parking facilities?
Yes, we have parking space available for approximately 5 cars.
Bringing your own items into the rooms
Generally, we kindly ask our guests to refrain from bringing their own alcoholic beverages.
Regarding Noise
As this accommodation is a renovated wooden school building, sound may carry. We appreciate your understanding.
Insects
As our facility is located in the mountains, insects may occasionally enter. We appreciate your understanding.
Regarding children aged 2 and under without meals or futons, who will share the bed
For children who do not require meals or futon (sleeping together), please press the "sleeping" button next to their age on the reservation page.
Regarding Bath Tax and Heating Fee
A separate bath tax of 100 yen will be charged locally (for adults only). During the winter season from November to April, there is an additional heating fee of 500 yen per room.
About WiFi
As our facility is located deep in the mountains, there is no fiber-optic connection available. Please note that WiFi may be unstable at times.
Regarding lost items
We will keep lost items at the inn for a period of one month. Any items left beyond this period will be disposed of. Please be aware of this policy.
Regarding clothing inside the facility
During the winter, we have stoves in the hotel and guest rooms, but it may get cold. Please feel free to bring thick jackets and socks. We also rent out throw blankets for those who wish.
About access by private car during winter (December to March)
Due to snow and icy roads, please be sure to arrive in a 4WD vehicle with studless tires.
